A man and woman left critically ill in Amesbury were exposed to novichok, the Metropolitan Police's counter-terror chief has confirmed. Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday evening, Assistant Commissioner for Counter-Terrorism Neil Basu said there had been a 'significant development' after officers declared a "major incident" earlier in the day. The development comes after officers were called to a home in Muggleton Road, Amesbury, on Saturday when the woman - named locally as 44-year-old Dawn Sturgess - collapsed and were called back later that day when the man - named locally as 45-year-old Charlie Rowley - also fell ill.
