October 5, 2018. Opposition leader Bill Shorten speaking to media in Melbourne's east about funding help for those studying early education at TAFE in the second announcement in as many days aimed at boosting the childcare sector. Shorten says, if elected, Labor will give partial funding for 10,000 early educator training courses to help keep up with the demand in carers, particularly on the back of the previous commitment to fund kindergarten spots for three-year-olds. He also says his government would work to increase pay for childcare workers, as they are underpaid.(AAP VIDEO/Andrew Leeson)
