On November 9, Germany is commemorating the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, a series of anti-Semitic attacks organised by the Nazis in 1938. Ninety-one people were killed and thousands of Jewish shops and synagogues were destroyed in the pogrom, which also marked the first wave of arrests that would lead to the deportation of 35,000 Jews to concentration camps. Our correspondents Anne Mailliet, Denis Parchow and John Laurenson travelled to Leipzig, in eastern Germany, to meet a man who witnessed Kristallnacht and is alarmed at the resurgence of nationalism and anti-Semitism in Germany today.
