Around 700,000 ethnic Koreans live in Japan, the descendants of the two million people who were brought there during Japanese colonial rule. After World War II, many were repatriated to the Korean peninsula, including those who started a new life in North Korea. But one group, now back in Japan, has taken the unprecedented step of filing a lawsuit against Pyongyang, demanding damages for the suffering they say they experienced in North Korea.
