Foreign correspondent Richard Lloyd Parry says North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will never allow US President Donald Trump to manipulate him with flattery. The two leaders travelled to Vietnam this week for their second summit, during which the pair discussed the possible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula among other international policy issues. Mr Parry believes President Trump likely tried to ‘flatter him into making concessions’, but said ‘I don’t think Kim cares what Trump personally thinks about him, all he cares about are results and a deal for his own sense of self interest’.
