‘Les Miserables’ to be brought to life on television

British actor David Oyelowo says the new production of Victor Hugo’s 'Les Miserables' is 'not what the audience will expect.' Les Miserables has been adapted over ten times, most notably the 2012 Oscar-winning film starring Australian Hugh Jackman. The new production differs from its predecessors by being a drama series, rather than a musical, and for casting people of colour in major roles. Mr Oyelowo, who plays antagonist Inspector Javert, says the drama series takes a 'deep dive' into all the major characters. 'Les Miserables' is currently screening as a six-part miniseries on Foxtel’s BBC First.
