[ Other - Health ] Open Question : Advice please. Is it possible for afib to happen just once?

My mom had an afib episode happen to her about 20 days ago where she was woken from sleep trembling, feeling weak, with her pulse higher than 100 bpm. The paramedics arrived and diagnosed afib. She went to the e.r and they couldn't lower it with meds so they did a cardioversion which got her back to normal. She's been on blood thinners ever since. She's 50 yrs old, eats healthy, has some extra weight only in her belly region, pretty stressed/anxious, tad depressed. My concern now is that it happens to her again. I read somewhere that at some point cardioversions aren't effective, is this true? In that scenario, what would happen; what would they do to control the afib? How dangerous is afib on a scale of 1 -10?
