It is a kind of relief for me to let the words fly out from my brain and glide on a paper like black swans upon a misty river... I've archived these words from years ago into the deepest parts of my mind and finding and gathering them again is not an easy job, but I shall try to make you dear readers accompany me from my earliest memories which are so intense and poignant that by bringing them on the paper, I may remember them with every detail till the rest of my life. My name is Stephen Warner and I was born on the fifth of July 1818 inside a luxurious hall, built upon the hillside of Grasmoor mountain, overlooking Crummock water, 3 or 4 miles distant from the village, Loweswater. I was the youngest son of Josef Warner and Anna Manning, both employed by a well to do wine merchant, George Crimson.
