Should Children Really Have to Pay in Full in Cinemas?

It’s usually an unspoken question in the minds of parents, but one that a local movie theater has recently addressed. This picture has been placed at a local movie theater in the Philippines, explicitly stating that CHILDREN OF ALL AGES ARE PAID IN FULL:

Now, this might seem like common sense or basic knowledge to some people, but some parents might think differently. After all, why should you pay for a baby who can’t even understand the movie to begin with? Or why should you pay for a toddler who’d be much more comfortable sitting on your elevated lap, where they can actually see the movie better (most toddlers cannot see well from the regular seats, especially if there is a tall person sitting in from of them) and get cuddles at the same time?

Especially in some cases, like in cinemas where the couches are so big, they can fit two people; it makes more sense to just share the huge seat with your kid. Of course, I am speaking as a parent who regularly brings her 9-year-old (non-crying) daughter to the cinemas and only brings her when there are children’s movies showing – which there has been a huge plethora of recently.

Of course, non-parents or parents who actually want to enjoy the movie – particularly non-children’s movies – feel very differently, stating that babies cry during movies and could potentially ruin the experience with their cries. (But don’t regular movie goers do that, too, when they scream or laugh on purpose to look cool during scary movies? ALSO READ: Cinema Etiquette: Is There Such a Thing?)

Some people have pointed out that the kids should just be left at home altogether – but what if the parents don’t have money for a yaya or can’t get a babysitter? Should they stop going to the cinemas altogether just because they have children who could potentially be noisy at the cinemas?

What do you think? Maybe instead of paying in full, kids can get discounts? Now that’s just my wishful thinking! Hahaha. Share your thoughts!
