If you kill or harm someone, even in self-defense you're still going to jail if you are indicted. Your bail will be too high for you to get out. Once indicted you will spend the next year or 2 in jail until a judge declares that you killed in self-defense. Nobody can guarantee that you will not be raped by other inmates during the time you spend in jail
