The strongest typhoon to make landfall in Japan in more than 20 years has killed at least eight people and has left thousands more stranded. Ferocious winds have seen Typhoon Jebi tear apart buildings while more than 50 centimetres of rainfall has fallen in the nation's south. More than 1.5 million people have been left without power, many of them are now subject to evacuation orders. Flights in and out of the region have also cancelled due to significant flooding.
