The United States has filed 17 new charges against Julian Assange, accusing the WikiLeaks founder of violating the Espionage Act by unlawfully obtaining and publishing classified information. Prosecutors allege Mr Assange worked with a former army intelligence analyst to obtain and disseminate classified documents. The new charges are raising questions about press freedom, with fears many reporters could also be accused of similar conduct. If convicted the WikiLeaks founder could face a maximum sentence of 170 years in prison.
